About Avon Hospice
Patients are generally referred by their local GP, a specialist or by another Hospital. Family and friends may also refer patients. GPs care for their patients while in the Hospice.The Hospice Building is a four bed facility attached to the Northam Hospital. This inpatient facility is offered for respite care, pain control and treatment of other symptoms. Family involvement is encouraged. Care is provided by Hospital Nursing Staff in consultancy with Avon Hospice Staff and the co-operation of volunteers and relatives at all times. Breast Cancer Support Group meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 1.00pm to 3.00pm in the Ann Wilmot Room in the Avon Hospice facility. Apart from the support provided throughout the normal day for each patient and their family, general counselling and social work assistance is available for all patients, and to family members and friends upon request.nBereavement counselling is also given.
