The Speak Easy Association is a self-help organisation that provides support for people who stutter by holding fortnightly meetings in their respective metropolitan and rural locations. Groups meet regularly to work on fluency techniques, discuss individual stuttering problems and develop self confidence through role-playing and public speaking. The Shepherd Centre is an early intervention program working with children from diagnosis to school entry.The organisation also has a cochlear implant program. Assists families and children to follow programs that will help them to continue to learn new skills in mobility, communication and self care. Support to help children maximise access/participation in educational settings and recreation. Advice on equipment/technology and support in funding applications. People may self refer or be referred by an advocate or professional. Services may be provided in the home or school environment. Building is accessible for people with disabilities. Early intervention service for childen 0-6 years who have an intellectual disability, developemental delay, disability or at risk of delay. Provide special educational programs, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and preschool inclusion support. Run small groups and provide individual sessions and home visits. Outreach service to Blue Mountains (therapy sessions) and in the Hawkesbury region, including a Babystart program for families with a child aged 0-2 who have a developmental delay, intellectual disability or are at risk of developmental delay, cost $5/week. Fees-$250 per term. No family is denied service if unable to pay fees.

The early childhood assessment and consultancy service comprises an assessment by a team of professionals that can include a speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and early special educator who will assess your child's movement, play, communication and cognitive development. The involvement of parents in the assessment and planning process through discussion about the child's development is also critical. Another important input is information from other professionals to help us develop a thorough understanding of your child. We then provide you with a detailed written report highlighting your child's strengths and areas of need, strategies to help you at home and staff at other childcare settings and guidance on the planning and implementation of your child's individual education program. Assessments are $200 or $135 if you have a Health Care Card. The fee includes ongoing consultancy.
