Travel assistance scheme to assist people to the nearest available specialist. Application forms are available at GP surgeries . Respite accommodation available also ( card holder ). PATS clerk situated at the Albany Hospital If you need to come to Perth for cancer treatment and live 100kms or more from the city, you may be eligible for funding through the government's PATS scheme for the cost of your travel and accommodation. Application for this assistance must be made via the PATS Clerk at your local hospital or through your treating doctor prior to commencing your journey. The Cancer Council provides first-class accommodation in line with the PATS scheme at A H Crawford Lodge in Nedlands. If eligible for PATS cover, you may not have to incur any costs other than personal telephone charges to stay at the Lodge, as The Cancer Council will invoice PATS direct for the cost of your accommodation.

Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS) provides assistance to people in the country who are required to travel more than 100 kms (one way) to obtain the nearest available medical specialist treatment not available locally, via telehealth or from a visiting service. PATS provides a subsidy only, it does not cover all of the costs associated with travel to a specialist appointment. PATS is administered through country hospitals across Western Australia (WA). Staff from country health services are able to assist patients to coordinate multiple appointments and book travel and accommodation where necessary.The type of assistance offerred includes travel and accommodation allowance and financial assistance for an escort or attendant if needed to accompany the patient. Referrals for PATS assistance are made by General Practitioners at the time of making the referral to the medical specialist. The application form is then taken by the patient to his/her local hospital for approval.
