About Dual Diagnosis Service

Hunter Dual Diagnosis service provides integrated treatment for people who have concurrent mental health and substance use problems. It consists of 2 separate services (Huon Unit & Kirkwood House) both integrated services and a limited community outreach service. Kirkwood House - is a centre based community health service.(See Lincs 6683) Huon Unit is a 16 bed acute, short stay psychiatric unit located at James Fletcher Hospital, admission is via the Psychiatric Emergency Centre (PEC). The program includes assessment, identification management and treatment of mental health and substance use problems. Assessment is within one week and entry to program 1 to 2 weeks. The Limited community outreach services provides short term follow-up for dual diagnosis clients discharged from Huon and those engaged in Kirkwood programs.
