About Family Advocacy
Family Advocacy is a statewide, community-based organisation which is concerned with the needs, interests and rights of people who have a developmental disability. It promotes positive social roles for people who have a developmental disability by developing advocacy by families and by strengthening the knowledge, influence and role of the family. Family Advocacy runs information workshops and skills development sessions for families, provides telephone advice to individuals, produces resource material and a newsletter. It also has a resource library of articles, books and videos available to families, workers and students. In addition, Family Advocacy also makes representations at the government level so that change is made to legislation, policy and services to gain better quality lifestyles for people with a developmental disability.
