The Home Tutor Scheme is a part of the Adult Migration English Program, that helps eligible adult migrants/refugees who cannot attend English classes. The scheme provides training and support for volunteer tutors who help migrants to learn English and also learn about life in Australia. Tutoring usually takes place in the informal atmosphere of the migrant's own home. However, volunteers may also assist in conversation in Adult Migrant English program classes. The Home Tutor Scheme places people from Non-English-Speaking-Background with an English-speaking friend whilst learning to live in Australia. The program usually operates for the first 3 years of arrival in Australia. The service also provides resources for people from NESB to improve their English.
