About LinkAGE Volunteer Program

The LinkAGE program recruits and trains volunteers to become companions to elderly residents of nursing homes, hostels and retirement villages throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. Potential volunteers are interviewed nby telephone and invited to attend a 15-hour ntraining course. Following the training and screening (evaluation by the trainer, referee and criminal record checks, and signature of a prohibited persons declaration), volunteers are assigned to an aged care facility participating in the program. Currently there are 45 aged care facilities in the program and around 90 volunteers. The volunteers offer companionship on an individual basis, generally spending one hour a week with the resident, in activities such as conversation, reading, letter writing etc. Phone 9923 7299 for more information.
