About Strong Families Program

This program is aimed at Aboriginal Families . The Government's response to the recommendations from the Gordon Inquiry resulted in the state-wide expansion of the Strong Families Program. The program is based on the Strengthening Families strategy developed and implemented nationally in New Zealand Strong Families is an interagency case management approach to working with families with complex needs. While the Department for Community Development is the agency responsible for overall implementation, the program is conducted as an interagency initiative in which all of the key stakeholders have a strong sense of ownershipnInteragency consultation with client's consent- coordinating services for supporting a family. The role of the coordinator is to promote coordination and collaboration between agencies in their work with families who have complex needs. Referral by local agencies.
