About Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS)

Provides subsidised transport by taxi to people with severe and permanent disabilities from 5 years onwards. Participants pay half of the metered fare. The Maximum subsidy that can be claimed is $30.00 per trip. Any amount over the $60 metered fare must be incurred by the participant. There is a six week processing time of applications. Participation in the scheme is not means tested, however, applicants must meet strict eligibility criteria. Receipt of an aged, invalid, blind or any other pension will not automatically qualify an individual for participation in the Scheme. Pre-school aged children, regardless of their disability, are ineligible for the Scheme. Application forms and eligibility criteria can be found on the website or by phoning 1800 623 724. From 1 December 2007, drivers of Wheelchair Accessible Taxis will be able to claim $8.47 for each wheelchair passenger they carry. The trial is intended to improve reliability and response times for wheelchair passengers.
