Visioncare NSW administers the NSW Spectacle Program on behalf of the NSW Department of Community services. Under the program spectacles may be provided free of charge to low income and disadvantaged persons who are Australian residents living permanently in NSW.The service is subject to an applicant arranging their own eye examination and meeting an income and assets based means test and other eligibility criteria. Most optometrists and optical dispensers participate in the Spectacle Program (over 600 providers Locations throughout NSW).
