WAMS was established in 1986, and aims to provide quality health services to the communities of Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri and other smalller towns in the area. Services provided include a resource centre, a medical advice and treatment centre, individual and family counselling service, information and advice about substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, domestic violence, diabetes and children's issues. Provide medical, dental, mobile children's services and community services. Staff include a doctor, a nurse, several Aboriginal health workers, dental services, a children's health co-ordinator, a drug and alcohol worker, a mid-wife and men's and women's health workers.
