WorkWise was successful in gaining a contract from the Australian Government Dept. of Education, Science and Training to pilot a new program - the Partnership Outreach Education Model (POEMS). WorkWise is providing education, to Year 10 equivalent, for 13 - 19 year olds who are disconnected from mainstream education and training. In addition to curriculum subjects including Science and History, there is a strong focus on numeracy and literacy skills and personal / social development. Other features include peer support and student involvement in determining the content of the curriculum, on-going support from specialist teachers and the student support worker, flexible entry and exit and the ability to work at individual levels. nPOEMS operates full-time a maximum class size of 12. nn.
