The Respite Service supports families of people with mental illness by providing flexible respite choices with a recovery focus. Depending on family, friends and carers needs, respite may be provided in the home or the community. This is a fee for service program.

MATES is a programme that the Australian Red Cross has been running since 1997. It involves trained volunteers becoming friends with people who have a diagnosed mental illness. The programme is free of charge although some activities may incur a small fee. Regular meetings are held between the mates, volunteers and the coordinator.
