Goldfields Mobile Dementia Respite Team (Alzheimers Association)
The Kalgoorlie MDRT provides education, support and respite to carers and people with dementia. The service is NRCP funded and assists families in accessing community-based respite services in the Goldfields region. As part of its ongoing program, MDRT members will identify and/or implement respite options as required, introducing the carer and the person with dementia to the benefits of respite. Regular community-based respite is offered including: In-Home Respite This is where a respite care-worker visits the individual's home to provide support to family carers who can either receive a regular or occasional service during the day or overnight. The services may include social participation in local community activities. Host Family Respite This provides a social club for an average of three people in the earlier stages of dementia in the home of a care worker. Each home is known as a "Home Club" where clients enjoy a variety of activities.
