Illawarra Dementia Respite Service
TTY (02) 4227 6389. The IDRS provides home based respite to carers of people with dementia who have developed challenging behaviours. The service provides flexible respite options up to 4 hours per week. Assessment for eligibility is undertaken and qualified paid staff provide the care. The IDRS also offers a Twilight Tour bus trip twice a week. The bus operates on a Tuesday and Thursday from 2 pm - 6 pm. The idea of this bus outing is to alleviate and reduce the effects of 'sundowning'. It is staffed by two nurses and a volunteer driver. The cost is $4 per trip.
