St George Mental Health Service - Inpatient Unit
The Inpatient Unit has both an acute and a general ward and offers supervised care in hospital when community treatment is not possible. Individuals are admitted to the general ward when they have a mental illness or disorder which needs to be treated to stabilise their mental state. The Inpatient Unit offers education and support to individuals during their stay in hospital and their families, and also provides activity programs and occupational therapy. Individuals are admitted to the acute ward when they are severely troubled by the symptoms of mental illness and need close observation and monitoring. When the individual's mental state has stabilised, they are transferred to the general ward for ongoing treatment.
