St Vincent de Paul Society - Sydney Regional Council

Conference Members are volunteers of the Society who visit people in their own homes to provide support, friendship and material assistance. This practice is known as Home Visitation. Members support needy people by visiting them where they live, that is, in their homes, the sick and lonely in hospitals, the elderly in nursing homes and hostels, people with a mental illness, people in prison and people in detention centres. Conferences are typically Parish based groups of people who respond to calls for assistance from people in the local community. People who are being assisted by Conference Members are often provided with furniture, clothing and household goods through the Society's Centres of Charity. The Conference generally consists of a group of approximately eight to ten people from the local Catholic parish. Conferences usually meet weekly to report on the visits they have made and discuss the main needs in their local area.
