Provides a supportive and non-judgemental environment in which participants can learn from others who understand and help them come to terms with their problems and realise that they are not alone. They will develop the confidence and skills to deal with the complex issues involved and learn to help their family member/loved one take responsibility for their choices; and find out where they can get professional help. Lifelink Samaritans has been listening to and caring for lonely, distressed and suicidal people in the community since 1968. Trained and life-experienced befrienders give callers time to reflect on their troubles and re-order their priorities, discussing personal options which their deep seated worries had not previously allowed them to see. This vital and empathic service is provided freely, in confidence and without judgement or personal prejudice. Callers sometimes find family and friends are not able to cope and listen without imposing these on the discussion. and it can be safer and more empowering for YOU to speak with an independent listener at Lifelink Samaritans in your moments of confusion and great need.
