TAD Disability Services

TAD Disability Services is the only charity in NSW which designs and builds custom equipment to enable people with disabilities to lead more independent lives.People with disabilities and their families often face overwhelming financial hurdles. At TAD, we believe that every individual has the right to equal opportunity and affordable equipment. Our custom built items are often produced at a fraction of the cost of any alternative solution. We also modify existing equipment to improve its suitability for the individual client. It all began in 1975. A small group of engineers led by George Winston AM decided to use their skills to profoundly change the lives of people with disabilities.Today, TAD’s core workforce consists of over 250 skilled volunteers who donate thousands of hours to designing, building and modifying more than 1,000 diverse items in NSW every year.CUSTOM DESIGNED EQUIPMENTOur skilled volunteers build and modify items to help people with disabilities and seniors to live more independently. Thanks to TAD volunteers, quadriplegic mums have special cots, prams and change tables to meet their exact needs. Children with disabilities have bath seats, mobility carts and supportive seating to make them comfortable at home and school. Seniors have items to support them at home like shower stands, modified walking frames and adjustable chairs and lounges.TAD employs a Physiotherapist, an Occupational Therapist and a Rehabilitation Engineer who work with clients, their carers and our volunteers to design and build the equipment to meet the individual’s therapeutic needs.COMPUTER SUPPORTTAD’s Computer Support Service offers affordable computers to anyone with a disability or Centrelink benefit.A team of highly skilled volunteers refurbish donated second hand computers and update them with Windows 7 and Office 2010.TAD’S FREEDOM WHEELSTAD’s Freedom Wheels Bikes enable children with disabilities to ride a bike when it was never thought possible. Many of these children cannot walk but they can ride. These special bikes are designed to suit the individual child’s age, height, weight and physical and cognitive abilities. Our Vision:People with disabilities and their carers will have access to innovative technical solutions, enhancing quality of life, opportunities for independence and participation in the community. Our Mission:Our mission is to provide personalised equipment and advice, to people with disabilities and their carers, through the innovative services of skilled volunteers and staff. How TAD is funded:TAD receives limited support from government and relies on foundations, trusts, community groups, schools, corporate partners and individuals to continue to provide equipment for people with disabilities. We have branches and groups in Illawarra, Central Coast, Hunter Region, Port Macquarie, Albury Wodonga, Central West, Shoalhaven, Coffs Harbour, Manning Great Lakes and Northern Rivers.
