DSPSI is funded for 8 respite poisitons. Clients are asked to complete an application form for a position. The application forms are then assessed by an independent panel. If an aplication is successful, the carer/client wil be offered a respite position for a 12 month period. At the end of this 12 month period, the client/carer will be asked to re-apply via the same method. Respite may take place in the client's home, alternatively the staff member may take the client out to pursue a social acitivity of their choice. Brokerage work also.

The In Home Dementia Respite Program is a social program providing respite for carers of people with Dementia with or without a challenging behaviour. It aims to provide opportunities for carers to take a break from the physical and emotional strain of caring, enabling greater participation in family and community activities, whilst providing meaningful stimulation to the client and maintaining community integration. Staff will come to your home or take the person you care for on an outing. Carers of people with a diagnosis of Dementia and who are living in the Dubbo community can access this service.
