Ku-ring-gai Neighbour Aid

Volunteers assist frail aged members of the community, young adults with disabilities and their carers to maintain independent living. Services offered include shopping, transport to essential appointments, social group activities (e.g.Mahjong), companionship and friendly phonecalls. A Community Settlement Services (Migrant Link worker) worker visits on Mon & Thurs. Family Support Workers visit Tuesday, Wednesday & Fridays. Shopping Bus - Home pick ups from nearby suburbs to St. Ives every second Wednesday.

Provides support to older people and younger people with a disability and their carers living in their own homes in the community by escorting them to appointments, assisting with shopping, banking or bill paying, or visiting them in their homes. This service is available on a weekly basis.

Provides a door to door shopping service for elderly, frail aged, disabled people and their carers who reside in the Sutherland Shire. Shoppers are driven to Westfield for shopping for 2 hours and then returned home. A drive yourself power shopper is available to Westfield shoppers on request (if available). 21 seater shopping bus with trailer takes shoppers to Marrickville Metro or Eastgardens. Weekly trips are Thursday am and pm. Clients are dropped off at the supermarket then at a pre-arranged time meet the bus driver who loads their shopping into the bus then carries it into their home for them. Assisted shopping trips also available Wednesdays to Broadway Coles.

Western Plains Branch of Home Care Service of NSW offers Western Plains Social Support in Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Cobar, Walgett and Warren local government areas, aimed at improving the quality of life for frail, aged people, younger people with disabilities and carers by helping them meet their need for social contact and participating in community life. The service will provide a trained volunteer to help with everyday activities such as: shopping, banking, bill paying, companionship, social support, telephone support, library visits, minor home maintenance, home visits and reading, addressing and posting mail, some transport to accompany client to appointments, social outings, and, information and referral to other services. Anyone can contact Western Plains Social Support and discuss their individual needs with a Coordinator. There may be a minimal cost depending on the service provided. No service will be denied due to an inability to pay.

The Dementia Specific Social Support - Lone Livers Program is aimed at clients who are living alone and are in the early to moderate stages of dementia. Social support can be provided up to 5 hours/week and covers transport, shopping, meal preparation and basically anything the client feels they require. They are also entitled to one and a half hours per week domestic assistance through the Multi Service program (listed separately).
