Service aims to provide a professional flexible service that is innovative and responsive to the needs of individuals and their families. Samaritans Respite Service provides planned respite for clients who have an intellectual disability as their primary diagnosis and who are over the age of 18. Accommodation is provided on approximately 2 acres at Jilliby and has been modified to accommodate people in wheelchairs. A modified vehicle is available to transport clients. The house is staffed by fully trained and caring workers 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 49 weeks a year. The home is able to accommodate 4 clients only. Planned respite can be taken in blocks up to one week every four months. Bookings are taken on a quarterly basis. Priority is given to people with moderate to high support needs, people who are living with ageing carers, people who are living at home with a primary carer and the health of the primary carer is affected.

DADHC's Respite Services provides planned respite at two venues on the Central Coast. An assessment will be done over the phone by the Intake Officer at the Department's Gosford office and the assessment is then allocated to an eligibility committee who will review the case. Residential Respite Booking Service is a free service for nursing home and hostel residential respite. Residential respite is short term accommodation for people requiring temporary alternate care arrangements. It is designed to help carers continue in their caring role by providing a 'break' from caring.
