Samaritans Respite Service provides planned respite for clients who have an intellectual disability as their primary diagnosis and who are over the age of 18. Accommodation is provided on approximately 2 acres at Jilliby and has been modified to accommodate people in wheelchairs. A modified vehicle is available to transport clients. The house is staffed by fully trained and caring workers 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 49 weeks a year. The home is able to accommodate 4 clients only. Planned respite can be taken in blocks up to one week every four months. Bookings are taken on a quarterly basis. Priority is given to people with moderate to high support needs, people who are living with ageing carers, people who are living at home with a primary carer and the health of the primary carer is affected.

The service offers - choice of appropriate facilities, information on respite bed availability and confirmation of bookings, organising aspects of respite care eg medication requirements and information on pension entitlements, liasion with the Department of Veterans Affairs for funded respite (Gold Card recipients). In order to be eligible for respite in an aged care facility the client needs a current Aged Care Application and Approval form also known as a ACCR form. Eligibility for residential respite is 63 days each financial year. The Carer Allowance is not affected unless more than 63 days respite each financial year is taken
