The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) matches volunteer visitors with individual nursing home and hostel residents. The Scheme (funded by the Dept of Health and Ageing) provides a highly rewarding and satisfying volunteer experience whilst alleviating the loneliness and isolation experienced by older and disabled persons living in local nursing homes and hostels. Residents and visitors are individually matched, ensuring close compatibility in personality, interests and backgrounds. For example, a visitor with an interest or hobby, whether it be gardening, chess or football, will be matched as closely as possible to a resident with compatible interests. Visitors may spend time simply chatting, or perhaps go on walks, sightseeing or even shopping excursions. YMCA is responsible for 15 aged care facilities in the Parramatta Western Region.
