The Orana/Far West Dementia Respite Service is provided in the area covered by the Orana, Western Plains, and Far West Home Care Service of NSW branches, and aims to support carers by providing an in-home, and/or out of home respite service for carers of people with Dementia and associated challenging behaviours which restricts their access to existing services. This particularly includes carers on farms and in remote communities where distance prevents access to current services. The Northern Sydney Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre can: give information and advice about respite options, services available in the community to a assist people to live independently; help with organising emergency, planned or short term respite; put carers in contact with local carer support groups; purchase the respite if necessary and assist with organising residential respite. The centre will work with carers to plan options which suit the carer's needs and the needs of the person they care for.

The Dementia Support Service (DSS) aims to provide an individualised respite and support service to carers of people with dementia. This will include care either in the home or for selected outings. When necessary DSS can assist with managing difficult behaviour by planning individual behaviour intervention programs.

This service offers respite for carers, whether they look after young or elderly people. In home services include recreational activities (gardening, walking, exercise, music, games); assistance with daily living skills (meal or drink preparation, bed making, clothes washing, sweeping & vacuuming); personal care activities in the absence of a carer (toileting, feeding or showering). Out of home services (available only occasionally during a period of respite) includes activities such as library, lunch, shopping or picnics. Respite may be weekends or after hours. 3 hours respite per carer is offered. Cost can be negotiated for those experiencing financial difficulties.

In Home Respite is auspiced by Community Care - Central Coast Ltd. The service offers a break to families or carers of people with dementia or a related disorder. A Co-ordinator will visit the client and do an assessment before respite is arranged. The In Home Respite carer can either stay in the home with the client to give the carer a break, or if the clients' mobility allows it the In Home carer may take the client for a drive. Care can be provided weekly, fortnightly or monthly on a regular basis. The service is provided by Assistants in Nursing who have specialised training and experience in managing difficult behaviour. The service can be used, weekdays, evenings, overnight or at weekends. Clients are asked to contribute a minimal amount for care.

Commonwealth Dept of Health and Ageing, (under the National Respite for Carers program) Provides flexible in-home support and assistance for people with a diagnosed dementia and for their carers. Service includes social and recreational activities, respite for carers and provision of resources, regular home visiting and assistance with daily living tasks including light housework, shopping and meal preparation.

Eleebana Respite Cottage

NSW, Australia

Eleebana is a community respite care cottage located in Faulconbridge (mid Blue Mountains), funded by the Department of Health and Ageing and operated by Anglicare. Carers of someone who has dementia or is frail aged can make a booking for their care recipient to stay at the respite cottage for an extended overnight stay and the cost is funded by the Commonwealth Government. The respite period is from either Thursday to Saturday or Wednesday to Friday, on alternative weeks.

The Respite for Employed Carers Service aims to provide a quality respite service to employed carers of the frail aged including those with dementia. The carers are either in employment or have plans to return to work or study and the respite service is to help ease the demands of combining caring and employment responsibilities. This service provides flexible in-home respite available 7 days per week, from 6.00am to 12.00 midnight. It also caters for the shift worker and the changing demands of employment such as training and conferences.
