Jerendine Family Support

A respite facility where people with a psychiatric disability can stay for up to 4 nights to give their voluntary carers a break. To be eligible people must live in the Brisbane City area south of the river, have a psychiatric disability as their primary diagnosis, and have a voluntary carer. Fees are $10 pr night which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between snacks. It also includes laundry expences. The organisation also facilitates community activities and outings. People are expected to pay any associated costs themselves, ie lunch or entry fees. Jerendine can also offer flexible support options in the event of unforseen circumstances such as the ill health of a voluntary carer (emergency respite room). For every Wednesday there is a special activity such as jewellery making, woodwork, gardnening and cooking. Also provides activities for guests and carers such as camps, festive events and holidays.

The Aged Care Mental Health Service provides mental health assessment and treatment for people over 65 years of age who have or may have a mental illness which has arisen after the age of 65; mental illness related to an age-related condition and pre-existing mental illness being complicated by an age-related or medical condition. Services include in-home assessment and treatment, family support services, outpatient medical appointments, case management, coordination and referral to community services as necessary. Referral is through a GP or other health professional or any other interested party.
