The Hut

The Hut is a drop in centre and base for providing recreation and leisure activities for mental health consumers who live in the community. It operates as part of the local community mental health service, and works in partnership with other community groups and services. It offers people who have significant mental health challenges opportunities to come and pursue whatever interests them, eg sport, films, food. The Hut shares activities with other recreational services in the Sydney area such as bowling, BBQs, dances, sports/games days etc. Younger adults, please call to be referred to other suitable services. The Inpatient Unit has both an acute and a general ward and offers supervised care in hospital when community treatment is not possible. Individuals are admitted to the general ward when they have a mental illness or disorder which needs to be treated to stabilise their mental state. The Inpatient Unit offers education and support to individuals during their stay in hospital and their families, and also provides activity programs and occupational therapy. Individuals are admitted to the acute ward when they are severely troubled by the symptoms of mental illness and need close observation and monitoring. When the individual's mental state has stabilised, they are transferred to the general ward for ongoing treatment.

The Rehabilitation Team works with consumers to improve or develop their living skills (eg using public transport, managing money and preparing and cooking food) and their work skills.
