The aim of the Program is to enable Australian Red Cross to provide Volunteer Patient Transport Service to people allowing them to attend essential medical appointments for up to a six week period. Volunteers provide a personalised transport service to people who cannot access or use other modes of public or private transport to attend medical appointments 24 hour booking time is preferred and a donation is requested for each trip. Area covered includes Ballarat and surrounds, Pyrenees Shire, parts of Golden Plains, Hepburn and Moorabool Shires.

Clients are issued with a blue identification card which emergency services can use to identify them if they are lost etc. It contains next of kin details, doctor's name and allergy/medical conditions. Service operates a call service where clients are contacted once per month to check on their welfare. Volunteers can do home security visits (checklist including smoke detectors, locks, shrubbery etc) and will change batteries in smoke detectors if requested. Social trips and a newsletter is also available. For residents in the Rosebud area who are elderly and disabled and isolated. If people are interested in volunteering they are welcome to call. They will require a police check. There are currently approx. 50 volunteers.
